Wimax in Japan
Nov 28th

Here is a service in Japan that offers Wimax and a little device that lets you start a WiFi network in your pocket. I guess is like Verizon’s service MiFi. Pocket Wifi is advertising how it’s service can be used with the iPod Touch, PSP, Notebook Computers, and any other Wifi enabled device. I am looking into this device for work but not sure if the coverage maps are large enough in the countryside of Japan. A quick look at the coverage map shows that cities are covered. The monthly fee is about $50 USD.
I Brought My MacBook Back To Life!!
Nov 28th
I am very stoked that I managed to bring my trusty MacBook back to life!! It seems that it was just a hard drive failure as I thought. When I tested it last I couldn’t get it to boot from the Mac OS X disc no matter what I tried so I assumed it was just dead. I put it away for a while and then the other day I decided to give it one more chance before taking it to the recyclers. Well I messed with it for an hour or so and was able to get it booted from the CD, and then decided to run to the local computer store and get a new hard drive. Now I have a new hard drive and the trusty old MacBook is back and running a nice fresh copy of Snow Leopard!!
Moral of the story….Don’t give up so easily!!

Mac Mini System
Nov 21st
I am kind of thinking about picking up a Mac Mini to make the base of my podcasting and videocasting setup, or at least one of a couple systems. I thought it would be fun to do the math to figure out how much it would cost to get a Mac Mini system up and running. I will assume that I don’t have an extra mouse, monitor, or keyboard laying around. I will also do a couple of systems just for the fun of it again. The prices will come from Dell, Apple, and Amazon.

Mac Mini System #1:
Cheapest Mac Mini $599.00
20″ Dell LCD Monitor $179.00
Logitech Scrolling Optical Mouse $11.83
Apple Keyboard $49.00
__________________________
Total Price: $838.83
Apple Mac Mini System #2
Mac Mini $799.00
24″ Dell LCD Monitor $259.00
Apple Wireless Magic Mouse $69.00
Apple Wireless Keyboard $69.00
__________________________
Total Price: $1196.00

Now those are some interesting numbers aren’t they? The cheapest iMac is currently $1199.00 and that gives you a 3.06GHz Intel Core 2 Duo versus the Mac Mini’s 2.53GHz Intel Core 2 Duo . Now this article is not trying to sway you in any direction, in actuality it’s an article for me that I thought would help some of you out there. Hmmm….Do I go for the Mac Mini as the base for my “New Media Studio”? Or do I put down the money on one of the new iMac’s? Hard decision for any of us out there, isn’t it?

Handbrake – Rips DVD’s to many iPod/iPhone/other sizes and formats
Transmission – Best Bittorrent client for the Mac
ScreenFlow - Excellent screen casting for the Mac
