My First Mac

My first Mac:

The first Apple computer I ever owned was an LC 475. I bought it from the back of a Mac User magazine. I think it was one of those education models that was nicely discounted.

I totally missed the Apple II era due to the fact that they were expensive and my father bought us a Commodore 64 as our first personal computer, of course we also had an Atari 2600 at the time too.

My dad wasn’t really a gadget guy so we didn’t upgrade our technology very quickly at all and it took an act of the gods to get him to buy anything, lol. Though he had a mean record collection! I did have a neighbor that had an Apple II with the green monitor. I played Chopper Command (Choplifter???) as much as possible and a bunch of other games that I don’t remember, I hated the lame joystick though. Give me an Atari 2600 joystick any day of the week and I will pwn some noobs!!

Anyway back to the story. I remember I was working part time at a hospital on the evening shift when I ran across a copy of MacUser Magazine. I also worked with a girl that was studying graphic design and got on the discussion of Mac’s. She wasn’t really a fan girl or anything but she was a great artist and talked to me about the software she used and the things she did at school. As usually when I discover something new and interesting I had to find out more so I picked up a couple more magazines and before you know it I was opening the box to my new LC 475!! Mac OS 7 point whoever was a welcome site to my windows sore eyes. I also loved the way you dragged the disk into the trash and it automagically spit out the floppy.

I think the computer came with a golf program that my brother and I really got hooked on. We would have matches between each other just about every day. After the LC I had got my first Power PC Mac which was a 7200. Then for some reason I went back to the dark side for a few years and had windows PC’s or no computer at all. Though at university I would always go to the Mac Computer Lab if at all possible. When Steve Jobs came back to Apple and the iMac was released I came back as well. I picked up a iMac with the slot loaded DVD and fell back in love with the Mac. Once the OS X beta came out it was all over I never looked back to the old OS. Except for the lack of DVD play back initially I was sold. It was the best thing that could happen for us Mac users. We had a “real” OS!

Next there were iBooks, iMacs, Power Mac’s, and finally my current white plastic MacBook. I wont put iPods into this story but I have owned my share of those as well!

My next Mac with probably be a MacBook Pro with an i5 or i7 CPU if they every come out and an iPad too :-) Or should I get an iMac and an iPad? Hmm….
